Fun still life class!

Just finished a still life painting class and it was really fun. Peggy was super nice and made everything easy to understand. I'm pretty new to painting but she helped a lot. The other students were cool too. I thought the location was good and it was easy to get to. Definitely want to try another class sometime.

Good instruction, a bit pricey

I recently took a five day painting workshop with Tom Root. The instruction was thorough, focusing a lot on traditional oil painting techniques, which is exactly what I was looking for. Tom's feedback was insightful, and I felt my skills improved quite a bit by the end. The studio was well-lit and comfortable. My main drawback was the cost; it felt a little high even for a multi-day intensive. Also, I would have appreciated a bit more clarity on what specific supplies were 'nice to have' versus 'essential' beforehand. Overall, a solid educational experience, but I had to budget carefully for it.

They're really good at teaching fundamentals, even if you're new. They focus on representational art, so if you're keen to learn traditional methods, you'll be fine. Just read the workshop description carefully, sometimes they specify 'intermediate'.

As far as I know, it's generally all upfront. I haven't seen them offer payment plans for any of the workshops I've taken.

Pretty sure it's full payment when you sign up. Their workshops are usually pretty in-demand so they probably don't need to do payment plans.

Nah, you gotta bring your own. They usually send a supply list beforehand though, so you know exactly what to get.

I think for some of the figure drawing stuff they might have basic easels and drawing boards, but paints/brushes/paper you always bring.
